A Blab With Shel Israel, One of the Smartest, Hippest People I Know

I'm really thrilled that Shel Israel, author of the new book, Lethal Generosity, will be available for a Blab conversation on Thursday, November 5 at 1 pm Eastern. It will be his first Blab (and the first one I've managed) so log on but also be kind!  We'll look to have at least one of you in the Blab Room to ask questions, and we'll monitor your comments and questions as well.

About Shel:  If you don't know Shel Israel, you should.  Author, speaker and self-described "recovering publicist," his previous books, Naked Conversations and The Age of Context were co-written with Robert Scoble and broke new ground about social media, marketing and the future of technology.  He has his ear to the ground about future platforms and business models, but for our audience, his views are consistently grounded in social as a core strategy.

About the book:

Lethal Generosity: Contextual Technology & The Competitive Edge

While his previous book reported on how the convergence of five technology forces—mobile, social media, sensors, location technologies, and data  would foment a storm of change, this book explores how the business landscape is changing in the new era following the storm.

Lethal Generosity looks at stores, malls, stadiums, airports, concert halls and other public-facing enterprises—places where customers and commerce touch and shows how forward-thinking companies are thriving with new approaches.

Israel argues that in this new era, customer experience trumps brand marketing. Returns on traditional branding have already started to taper off, and Israel predicts that in the next few years that rate of tapering will accelerate, and then go exponential.

While the old ways slow down, new practices will speed up, as Israel sees it. It will allow businesses of all sizes and in most categories to predict what customers want and to give it to them precisely where and when they want it. The personal marketing goals of owners of the old shops on Main Street can now be accomplished globally through contextual technologies.
