Pinterest Search Gets Smarter: This Week in Social Media

Pinterest Introduces Smarter Search Features: Pinterest is "rolling out a couple changes to search that will make it easier for people to find you on Pinterest." One of these changes is to show "a checkmark for notable names and brands so people can easily find exactly who they're looking for."

Pinterest Improves Search and Adds Verified Accounts "These small changes will make a big difference in the way Pinners search (and discover) your business."

Twitter Introduces a Seamless Video Experience With Autoplay: Twitter made it "easier to enjoy video on Twitter. Now native videos, Vines and GIFs will begin to play back automatically."

Twitter Seamless Video Experience "Once you tap the video, sound will turn on and the video will continue to play in an expanded view."

Google Trends Gets a Redesign With Real-Time Data: "You can now explore minute-by-minute, real-time data behind the more than 100 billion searches that take place on Google every month, getting deeper into the topics you care about."

Google Trends Get a Redesign "On the new google.com/trends, you'll find a ranked, real-time list of trending stories that are gaining traction across Google."

Facebook Implements Author Tags: "By implementing the Author Tag on their website, publishers can make it easy for Facebook readers to start following the author of an article they just read and enjoyed."

Facebook Author Tags "This is a web development tool that connects the byline in a story preview in the News Feed to the writer's Page or Profile."

LinkedIn Redesigns Pulse App for iOS and Android: "The new Pulse app focuses on delivering you personalized news – news that is powered by your professional world."

LinkedIn Redesigns Pulse App "Pulse instantly gives you today's news based on the industry you work in, whom you're connected to and what you follow on LinkedIn."

Facebook Introduces Moments App: "Syncing photos with the Moments app is a private way to give photos to friends and get the photos you didn't take."

Google Introduces New AdWords Benchmarks and Key Tools for Marketers: With these updates to AdWords, Google offers marketers "more perspectives from businesses already using the data, information about how the product works and best practices for getting started."

Facebook Revamps Tools for Creating and Managing Facebook Ads: "The new Ads Manager and Power Editor simplify and speed up ad creation and optimization." Updated versions of these tools are currently being tested by a small percentage of advertisers, but Facebook plans to "gradually expand availability to all advertisers over the coming months."

Twitter Will Remove the 140-Character Limit on Direct Messages: Twitter has "done a lot to improve Direct Messages over the past year and has much more exciting work on the horizon." One change coming in July is the removal of the 140-character limit in Direct Messages.

FTC Updates Disclosure Guidelines for Social Media Marketers: "The FTC updated the 'What People Are Asking' page for its Endorsement Guides for the first time since 2010."

Digital News Report 2015: The Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at the University of Oxford released a new study based on a global survey of news consumers conducted by YouGov.com. The data shows that Facebook dominates when it comes news consumption. Forty-one percent of those surveyed use the network to discover, read, share and comment on news stories. This represents a 6% increase over 2014 data.

Top Global Brands on LinkedIn: LinkedIn Marketing Solutions shared the top 10 most influential brands on LinkedIn for 2015 based on each brand's content marketing score. This score is calculated by measuring the ratio between the total target audience and the unique users who engaged with the content, including company page and sponsored updates, employee shares and posts through the LinkedIn Publishing Platform and activities in groups. The report also examines these brands' shared key practices on LinkedIn.

Making the Workplace a Brand-Defining Space Report: A new report from the Chief Marketing Officer Council and Executive Networks Inc. reveals that 62% of respondents report having a formal brand platform that defines their company's shared values, ethics and collective buy-in to a singular value proposition. Seventy percent believed their management team is committed to developing such an ethos. The study also examines social media strategies and techniques currently being embraced by leading consumer brands to attract new talent and build long-lasting customer relationships.

Search Engine Optimization Survey Summary Report: Seventy-two percent of global marketing, sales and business professionals surveyed by Ascend2 cite "relevant content" as being the most effective SEO tactic. Keyword/phrase research (48%) was a distant second place. However, the respondents say that relevant content creation is one of the most difficult tactics to execute while keyword/phrase research is one of the easiest. The study also shared that changing search algorithms (40%) and budget constraints (38%) are considered the most challenging obstacles to SEO success.
